After checking in your bags, rushing through the airport, and boarding the plane, your flight is finally ready to take off. And that’s when you realize that you have several hours to kill, sitting there in the small chair that you are confined to. Air travel is convenient and fast, but it can be very uncomfortable and boring to sit for several hours without anything to do. Here are a few ideas to help pass the time:
Most people choose to read, bringing a book, magazine or newspaper can be a great way to get caught up on your reading and it helps the time go by faster. If you forget to bring a book, you can always pick up some reading materials at the airport gift shop. The shops usually have the latest top-sellers and popular magazines.
Watching movies is one of my favorite things to do on a plane, but it can be expensive to pay $5 for each movie that you want to watch through built-in screens. If you travel often, you may consider buying a small travel-sized DVD player and bring your own movies. Or you can also play the movies on a laptop if you usually bring your computer when you travel.
Laptops provide a way for you to get some work done or play games while you are waiting for your flight to land. Some flights even offer in-air WiFi services now, so you can connect to the internet while you are up in the air! I love to get caught up on work while I am on the airplane, it is very convenient.
Last but not least, you can always take a nap on the plane… it is a great time to catch up on sleep. I like to bring a small, inflatable u-shaped pillow to use. It fits easily in my carry-on bag, and when I need it I just have to blow it up and I instantly have a place to rest my head.
